Krista Bush’s practice at McKay Chadwell includes civil litigation and criminal defense for clients typically involved in complex cases in federal and state courts, as well as internal corporate investigations. She is also a part-time instructor in the Trial Advocacy Program at the University of Washington School of Law.
In 2008, Krista Bush and Mike McKay served as legal counsel for the Port of Seattle’s Special Investigative Committee’s internal investigation into Port contracting policies, procedures and practices. The Report of the Special Investigative Team, released on December 3, 2008, found instances of fraud in the Port’s contracting practices and other instances where state laws or Port policies were violated. The Report provided a set of recommendations to improve the Port’s practices and Port CEO Tay Yoshitani directed his staff to begin implementing them immediately. During the past year, Krista also took a leading role in an internal investigation of a financial brokerage firm concerning potential violations of Security and Exchange Commission rules.
Prior to joining McKay Chadwell, Krista worked with the Attorney General’s Office in the Criminal Justice Division (Seattle). Her practice focused on complex criminal and civil litigation in Superior Courts throughout the State of Washington, from the initial investigation and pleading stages, through discovery, motions practice and trial. There, Krista also managed a high volume appellate practice, including representing the State before all three Courts of Appeal and the Washington Supreme Court.
Krista began her legal career as a military attorney with the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. While on active duty, she served as prosecuting attorney, military defense counsel, administrative law attorney, military magistrate, and ethics counselor. Her military trial experience included litigating numerous federal cases, ranging from misdemeanors to premeditated murder cases, before judges and juries. She served eight years on active duty and reached the rank of Major (O-4). In her final assignment, Krista served as the Chief of Criminal Law for the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Krista earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Tampa in 1990, with majors in Political Science and History and a minor in Military Science. In 1993, she graduated from the University of Texas School of Law, where she was a member of the Texas International Law Journal.
Krista is an active member of both the Washington and Texas Bar Associations and is currently a member of both the Washington Criminal Law and Litigation Sections. She is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
